Today is German Schnitzbrot baking day! German Schnitzbrot is a Swabian Fruit Bread that my mother-in-law in Geislingen an der Steige used to make. I have varied her recipe to use tropical fruits but it is one holiday tradition that I love!
I have the last batch of 6 loaves of fruit bread baking right now and I started baking 7 hours ago! The entire process actually began 3 days ago, with cutting up the fruit and soaking it in rum.
Three loaves have already been delivered, one to a fishing buddy of Ron's, one to my favorite little waitress at Ohana Cafe and one to our Postmistress. The rest will be given out over the next week or sent to Germany, to my son.
I love the holidays and the smells of baked goods in the house. It is the ONLY time of year I do any baking! Tomorrow is cranberry sauce day. I will be making it with 6 bags of cranberries. I love fresh cranberry sauce!
