Ghost Tales Of John's Pass In Pinellas County Florida......

Ghost Tales of John's Pass in Pinellas County Florida...........everybody loves local history and when it is combined with ghost tales it turns into a real attention getter!

John's Pass Village, Madeira Beach FloridaJohn's Pass separates Madeira Beach from Treasure Island here on our Gulf Beaches. John's Pass got it's name from a gentleman from France by the name of John Levique. It seems he was working as a lad on a Spanish vessel when it was attacked by pirates. Now WHO doesn't like a good pirate tale.......John joined this band of pirates and eventually did well enough that it is said he had his own ship.

Legend has it that in the 1840's John made Florida's Gulf Coast his home, around Madeira Beach. Supposedly arriving with a chest of treasure that he buried somewhere on the beach, he settled into the business of selling turtles all along the Gulf of Mexico, even as far away as New Orleans. On one of his return trips a hurricane was approaching, so John waited further up the coast until he could sail come. Unfortunately, legend has it that the hurricane altered the pass between Madeira Beach and Treasure Island (where John had his treasure buried) and it is said he never found that burial site again. Locals claim that they still see John walking the beaches from time to time, searching for his lost treasure.John's Pass Village, Madeira Beach Florida

Today John's Pass is the home of John's Pass Village, a popular spot with locals and tourists alike! It is here, at John's Pass Village that you will find the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant. The Friendly Fisherman is owned by the Hubbard family, as is Hubbard's Marina - THE destination for deep sea fishing!

Legend has it that George and Anna Hubbard settled in the area in 1929 and started a fishing business. By 1975, the family moved that business to John's Pass Village, where it remains to this very day. Wilson Hubbard, son of George and Anna, was the one to move the business to it's current location and also the first person on our coast to offer dolphin trips out into the Gulf for tourists. That has sure proven to be one popular idea! All along the coast dolphin trips are offered today!

As for ghost tales, there is one that Wilson Hubbard, who passed on in the early 1990's, still visits both the restaurant and his former dolphin watching boat, The Sea Adventure. As a matter of fact, ghost tours are offered and you can purchase your ticket right at John's Pass Village!

There is a lot of history right here in Pinellas County and this is just a small sampling!
