This morning I attended a meeting of the Pinellas Realtor International Council that was held at the local board of Realtors. Deborah Boza Valledor, a Miami based Realtor, was the guest speaker. Deborah calls herself an Island Girl, since her roots stem from the Florida Keys as well as from Cuba and other Caribbean Islands.
During this informative session I learned many interesting facts about the international market. For example, Florida leads in percentage of international sales over all other states in the country. These are the latest statistics out and cover March 2010 - March 2011. Florida has captured 31% of the international sales! I was surprised to see that California only had 12%!
While I knew that the Canadians are in first place when it comes to WHO purchases in our country, I was surprised to learn that CHINA is now in the # 2 spot! Mexico is # 3, the UK # 4 and INDIA is # 5. There is indeed something significant going on in the international market!
We all know that we are living in a global economy and that the internet has changed the way we do business. Things will never be the same! Those who do not adapt to these changes will be left in the dust!
I was extremely surprised to learn that LESS THAN 10% OF REALTORS HAVE A BLOG SITE! That is absolutely amazing since most people being their home search on the internet today! Perhaps this information becomes somewhat more understandable when you learn that the average age of all Realtors in our country is 57 years of age while the average age of home buyers is mid-30's to mid-40's. While this in and of itself is not a big deal, it takes on a whole new perspective IF those Realtors in the Boomer age group don't integrate with the new technology that is being used across the board. With all of the continuing education being offered, there really is no reason for a Realtor not to be up to speed.

Barbara-Jo, don't assume that the boomers aren't major techies. Most of the people in my office would raise the average age, and we're all into it. And so are our elderly clients.
Pat - But from what I heard today, we are in the minority! When they asked this auditorium full of Realtors how many had blog sites, about a dozen hands went in the air!
