Indian Bluff Island, part of Palm Harbor Florida, is a small island of one family homes connected to land via a causeway. Surrounded on all sides by St Joseph's Sound, many of the homes on this island have boat docks and davits.

Indian Bluff Island was originally called Buchanan Island. In 1921 Mr Robert E Gause purchased the entire island (just under 22 acres) for the sum of $27.29 from Warren G Harding, US President. Yes, it is indeed the president's signature on the deed.

Ozona Florida is indeed a quaint little seaside town. Ozona is located just south of Crystal Beach but unlike Crystal Beach, Ozona has been incorporated into Palm Harbor Florida.

That does not take away any of the seaside village charm that you will find in Ozona. A village with no traffic lights, locals meet at the post office to discuss the weather and trade fishing tips.

There are a few great restaurants in Ozona Florida including Ozona Blue (directly on St Joseph's Sound), Molly Goodheads, Ohana Cafe, the Ozona Pig Bar-b-que and JC Craver's. Many of these establishments have live bands performing on the weekends, so it is always a good idea to call ahead to see if reservations are needed.

Zoned for some of the best schools in the county, Ozona is minutes to Honeymoon Island State Park and Caladesi Island State Park. Both of these state parks offer pristine beaches and miles of trails to hike. Naturally, the Pinellas Trail offers the perfect setting for biking, hiking and rollerblading. What could be better than an early morning hike up to Wall Springs Park, just on the other side of Crystal Beach? Since the Pinellas Trail runs right through Ozona, this is easily accomplished.

Crystal Beach Florida is indeed a wonderful community for all ages. Located directly on the shores of St Joseph's Sound and the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico beyond, Crystal Beach is a small town.

With no traffic lights, Crystal Beach residents can ride their golf cart to the local post office to pick up their mail. There are no mailboxes in tiny Crystal Beach! Here you have the feeling that you have stepped back in time, to the old Florida of the 1950's! Life is easy going with residents out for morning strolls along the seashore or on Pinellas Trail.

Our little 'subdivisions' consist of perhaps a dozen homes and are not in the usual sense of the word a 'subdivision'. Crystal Beach is simply too tiny for that. The town runs about a mile and a half long, right along the shoreline and at the deepest section, about 5 blocks wide. With a population at right around a thousand residents, this is truly an adorable place to live.

Zoned for some of the best schools in the county, Crystal Beach is also convenient to the University of South Florida, St Petersburg College and Tampa University. There is no need to travel far for continuing education and why would you want to if you can live here in Paradise.

Here in June 2013 we find that there are 27 single family homes currently available. At the high end we find a 5 bedroom, 5 bath waterfront home with breathtaking sunset views of the Gulf of Mexico. This 5487 sq ft pool home is listed at $1,450,000.

For those who cannot afford million dollar homes, Crystal Beach has many other possibilities. La Trattoria da Caetano - Dunedin Florida

La Trattoria da Caetano is located at 2152 Main Street in Dunedin Florida and it was our destination for dinner last night. I had heard about this little restaurant before and wanted to finally see for myself what all the talk was about.

La Trattoria da Caetano does not advertise at all! The restaurant has been open for over twenty years and it is through referrals that they built their clientele. They also have no menu and the dishes vary from night to night. The owner comes to your table with a cart containing samples of all of the cuts of meat and seafood that they are offering that evening. He discusses options on how it can be prepared and then it is made. Since there is no menu, you have no idea of the price in advance but I found that it was reasonably priced for the type of special restaurant that it obviously is. Open seven days a week (Monday through Saturday from 5 pm to 9:30 pm, I am not sure of the Sunday hours but know it begins at noon), you need to check out La Trattoria da Caetano but if you are a larger party, I do suggest calling in advance and making reservations.

I had a filet mignon with angel hair pasta that had bay scallops, shrimp and crab pieces in it. I am not sure but I think it was Amaretto that I tasted in the sauce. The entire thing was wonderful! Ronnie had chicken served in white wine with a side dish of pasta with homemade sauce. The presentation is unique and something you should indeed experience.

See you at La Trattoria da Caetano on Main Street, just west of Belcher in the Coastal Shopping Center, in beautiful Dunedin Florida for a dining experience that you are sure to enjoy!

Just one more thing that makes Dunedin Florida such a wonderful place to live and play here on Florida's Suncoast!

Dolphins frolicking off Pass-a-Grill in St Pete Beach Florida or anyplace along our beautiful Gulf Coast is something we often take for granted down here in the Sunshine State.

I remember, when I was a kid, I used to watch Flipper each and every day on the old black and white tv until it was replaced for a gigantic color tv in an even larger cabinet. Then Flipper really came to life. Perhaps that is why I often find myself singing (sometimes out loud and often in my head) the words to Flipper from that tv series. Seeing and watching dolphins makes me feel like a kid again!

Living in Florida is really like one great big vacation and after being gone for most of the 70's and 80's, I really appreciate being back here where the sun almost always shines and the sparkling Gulf waters are always calling my name!

Sea Critters - St Pete Beach Florida - GREAT Food!

Sea Critters Cafe was my destination down on St Pete Beach Florida once again this past week! I love the food there and rather than ordering a regular meal, I had blackened grouper with fried shrimp and tea! Pure protein, please!

It was another awesome meal! I have never had anything I don't like at Sea Critters Cafe! They know exactly how to prepare the food and you can be sure that the fish is always fresh!

Located at 2007 Pass-a-Grill Way on St Pete Beach here in sunny Florida, Sea Critters Cafe is a fantastic destination. You can either arrive via car or you can tie up your boat right at the restaurant and come in to dine!

You will never be disappointed so be sure to check out Sea Critters Cafe when you are in the Clearwater/St Petersburg area!

Clearwater Marine Aquarium - A Great Summer Destination

Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a fantastic summer destination! Where else can you visit with Winter, the star dolphin from the movie Dolphin Tale? This adorable little dolphin was found wrapped in crab trap line back in 2006. Unable to get free, the dolphin was rescused off the coast of Cape Canaveral, on the Atlantic Coast, and brought to Clearwater Marine Aquarium for lengthly rehabilitation.

Her injuries were so bad that Winter (as she was later named) lost her entire tail as well as two vertebrae. The chances of survival were slim, yet this amazing creature beat all odds and not only survived, she thrived! With determination, she has grown to well over two hundred pounds and can now feed herself.

Thanks to Dr Mike Walsh and Hanger Prosthetics and Orothotics, Inc., Winter has been fitted with a prosthetic tail that she now masters use of like an old pro. There have been many improvements to Winter's tail through the years and thanks to a team that never gave up, this beautiful sea mammal can look forward to a bright future.

In 2011 the movie Dolphin Tale came out. It was all about Winter the dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. During the filming, the aquarium was closed so that the filming crew and the actors could get the movie completed without disruption from curious fans. The result was a truly amazing and inspirational film!

Winter will remain at home here in Clearwater Florida, waiting for young and old alike to come and visit. If you have not been in to see this amazing dolphin, you really need to make the trip. What better way to teach our kids that you never give up and that with determination, almost anything is possible! I truly recommend a visit to Clearwater Marine Aquarium, located on Island Estates in Clearwater Florida. This is one summer destination you do not want to miss!
